Christians’ Lives Matter – Nigeria in Crisis I hear the pain, exhaustion, and frustration of the Igbo community daily. As a psychiatric social worker, I witness the trauma layered over decades of political failures, poverty, identity conflicts, and misinformation.
Let me be clear: Self-determination is not a crime. Every community has the right to express its identity, protect its dignity, and pursue development. This is a human aspiration. The mental health impact in the present day Nigeria is real: Growing up in fear normalizes violence and creates a generation trapped in survival mode instead of growth mode. This is the true danger for our children. Acknowledgment Matters: I appreciate the U.S. government and President Trump for recognizing the targeted violence against Christians in Nigeria. Recognition validates victims’ experiences and signals that the world is watching. But recognition alone is not enough.
We need: 1. Strengthened intelligence cooperation to identify violent groups and financiers 2. Technical support to dismantle criminal networks without harming civilians 3. Rehabilitation programs for traumatized communities and children Nigeria deserves strategic, humanitarian, and justice-rooted support. Our land deserves peace. Our future deserves truth.
